Battling with Mud Fever?
Most of the horses in New Zealand will have to cope with mud through the winter. Many are vulnerable to a condition called mud fever, particularly the horses with white socks and legs. The bug responsible for this is called dermatophilis and the result is a horse with sore heels, fetlocks, lower legs with sores with scabs and inflammation and often swelling.
